Press Release - Stolen Jeep Recovered

On Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at about 8 AM Sergeant Bravata received a report from a resident of Dorset, VT, regarding his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Vermont registration was stolen during the night. On Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at about 8 AM Sergeant Bravata received a report from a resident of Dorset, VT, regarding his 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Vermont registration was stolen during the night. The vehicle had already been entered into the NCIC database as a stolen vehicle. Sergeant Bravata searched Dorset and other locations throughout the day. As Sergeant Bravata was driving back to the Sheriff's Office at the end of the day, at about 5:00 PM, he observed the stolen Jeep driving north towards him on South Street The vehicle was covered with mud and had some front-end damage. The driver was an overweight male with a female passenger.

Sergeant Bravata turned around to stop the stolen Jeep, but lost sight of the vehicle and he radioed a broadcast that the stolen Jeep was in the downtown area of Bennington. Deputy Bahan was on Route 7 near the Kocher Drive intersection and observed the stolen Jeep. Deputy Bahan stopped the Jeep on North Branch Street and held the vehicle until Sergeant Bravata arrived on the scene. The operator was identified as Reynald Carey, Age 28 of Pownal and the passenger was identified as Kimberly Sirois, Age 25 of Bennington. Sirois was charged with Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer and False Swearing. She was issued and release with a citation to appear at the Superior Court of Vermont, Bennington Criminal Division on these offense at a later date. Mr. Carey was charged with Aggravated Operation Without the Owners Consent, Grand Larceny and False Swearing. The Department of Correction added a Furlough Violation. Mr. Carey was transported to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility pending his arraignment.

The Jeep received over $4700. in damages and was returned to the Dorset resident.
